Apply For Humanities Collegiate Division Lectureships

U OF C GRADUATE STUDENTS

These instructions and application form are for job candidates who are current University of Chicago PhD students and expect to be registered PhD students during each quarter of employment. University of Chicago graduate students who will have graduated before or who will not be registered during the quarter of employment are not eligible to apply to this posting.

Required Materials for University of Chicago Graduate Students

To apply for a lectureship in the Humanities Collegiate Division Core, submit the online application form below with the indicated supplemental materials by July 1, 2021. All documents, with the exception of the recommendations, must be submitted as a single PDF. Paper applications will not be accepted.

Please note: if you are applying to multiple lectureships, you must submit a separate online application for each lectureship. You may use the same supplemental materials for multiple applications, or you may choose to submit a separate set of supplemental materials for each application in order to relate your qualifications to the interests of a particular sequence. The required supplemental materials for U of C graduate students are as follows:

  • Cover Letter describing your academic interests and reasons for seeking a position in this course, and note your progress toward degree completion and teaching experience. Your letter will be reviewed by several people, and a general salutation (such as "Dear Selection Committee") is appropriate.
  • Current CV
  • Copies of teaching evaluations from prior teaching experience, if any (limit 5 pages)
  • Two letters of recommendation from faculty members familiar with your work (If preferred, these can be emailed by the faculty members directly to hcd-jobs@uchicago.edu. It is also acceptable to provide recommendations through a credential service such as Interfolio.)

It is no longer necessary to submit a dissertation chapter or approved dissertation prospectus. Instead, the HCD will contact the Director of Graduate Studies of each applicant's department to confirm that applicants are sufficiently advanced in their degree programs to teach in the College Core. Additionally, graduate students, if selected for teaching positions in the Core, may be required to provide a letter from their Dean of Students which authorizes the proposed teaching workload.

ALL PARTS OF THE APPLICATION MUST BE SUBMITTED BY JULY 1, 2021. YOUR APPLICATION WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED COMPLETE UNTIL ALL ITEMS ARE RECEIVED.
